These are the winners of the 2024 LC Awards

Tuesday afternoon was presentation day for the LC Awards 2024. Awards were presented in four different categories.

Fifteen candidates from Frisian vocational, higher and university schools had the chance to win the prize on Tuesday afternoon. Each project was given three minutes to convince the jury. Excited and a little nervous, the students explained why their concept should win.

This year the jury was made up of Maarten Pennewaard (editor-in-chief of the Leeuwarder Courant ), Cees Buisman (scientific director of Wetsus) and Loriane Westerneng (social and sustainable entrepreneur).

Best MBO project

Martin Boersma (22), Dennis de Jager (26) and Tijs van der Vegt (20) won the award for best MBO project. Students from Firda’s Software Development course brought the Hindeloopen museum to life with a series of interactive applications. The jury was impressed by the variety and practical applicability of his work.

Bachelor’s Award

The bachelor’s prize was won by a team from Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences: Rendert Meindertsma (20), Diane Timmerman (19), Germ de Vries (21), Anke Tijsling (22), Jelmer de Vries (20), Sytze. van der Meer (22) and Freerk Hettinga (22). Its grazing robot, designed for the Livestock and Livestock course, automatically moves the cows’ power cable. The jury considered the project socially relevant due to its impact on our agricultural province and the challenges in dairy production.

Award for the best master project

Manué Gerrits (46), student of Maritime Innovations at the Willem Barentsz Maritime Institute in Terschelling, received the master’s prize. Using algorithms, he designed a plan to make the crossing from Harlingen to Terschelling more efficient. The jury described his work as impressive and innovative.

Audience Award

Finally, the audience award went to Marijke Dijkstra (22). For the NHL-Stenden Thorbecke Academy, she investigated why not all minimum wage workers in the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân use the available programs. Her advice: use more visual language, appoint “mini companions” and let officials radiate more ambassadors.

All winners took home a check worth 333.33 euros and an LC Award.
