Antwerp hospital closes radiology service after incorrect diagnoses

The head doctor at ZNA Cadix requested an audit after doctors inside and outside the hospital reported incorrect X-rays, CT scans and MRIs. Of a sample of 1,300 patients, 24 diagnoses were inaccurate or incomplete.

The hospital is now investigating which diagnoses from last year from Cadix and sister hospitals Stuivenberg and Sint-Erasmus it should re-examine. If errors arise, the patient is informed.

Investigation

The investigation must also reveal what went wrong. In any case, the hospital’s equipment is not to blame, the management believes. It would be new.

The replacement of the seven radiologists is provisional, pending the final conclusions of the investigation. Meanwhile, radiologists from other hospitals are being deployed.
