Following complaints from several delegations, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is carrying out an independent investigation into the latest edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden. This was confirmed by the organization of the musical event to the ANP on Tuesday night.
“To further strengthen the Eurovision Song Contest, we asked an independent expert to investigate the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö to share ideas and lessons with the EBU governing bodies,” the organization said. This is done for the “continuous improvement of this global event.”
The EBU does not respond to substantive questions about the investigation. AVROTROS, head of the Dutch delegation, says he will give an answer “later.”
Several contestants, including Swiss winner Nemo and Ireland’s Bambie Thug, criticized the atmosphere backstage, which they described as “very intense.” The EBU was also criticized for disqualifying Dutchman Joost Klein after an incident with a camera.
