“We may have forgotten everything, but March and April weren’t that bad,” Evert de Goede, managing director of Hornbach in the Netherlands, comments on the recent weather. ‘Certainly not compared to 2023, when rain and cold caused a mediocre start to the year. This year we have had a better start.”

In Hornbach the first quarter ran from March 1 to May 31. During that period, turnover in all countries in which the company is active increased by almost 2 percent compared to the previous year, up to €1.8 billion. The company does not provide specific figures on the Dutch market. However, according to Hornbach, the Netherlands had an “above average” turnover share in the aforementioned turnover figures.
