Celebration and cheers after Dutch victory over Türkiye

Jem Boet

In Utrecht, spectators sang ‘Woutje Weghorst tutututu’, as well as ‘Viva Hollandia’ and ‘Hup Holland Hup’. The frenzied fans also set off fireworks and honked their car horns. Fireworks could also be seen and heard in the Lombok district. People also set off fireworks in various places in Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and Zaandam.

When the referee blew the final whistle, plastic cups of beer flew around the Café Emma in The Hague. There was a huge cheer and party music was played. Visitors flew into each other’s arms and orange inflatable balls were torn from the ceiling and thrown around the shop.

Andre Rieu

The thousands of people present at an André Rieu concert in Maastricht could not contain themselves when the Netherlands scored. Despite requests on the screens to keep quiet, this did not work. Rieu himself saw the fun and finally gave the audience a chance to cheer.

Hundreds of Dutch people also watched the match at the Belgian Rock Werchter festival. After the Netherlands claimed victory, music fans sang along to some Orange songs en masse.
