In late August, just about three months after release, insider Tom Henderson said that Ubisoft was dissatisfied with the number of players and the microtransactions (or lack thereof) that came with it. This news certainly makes XDefiant fans uncomfortable, especially since Henderson is usually very familiar with the publisher’s plans. However, a few hours ago, Executive Producer Mark Rubin took to Twitter (X) to confirm that the game will not close after Season 4; instead, the studio is working to improve the situation.
To be clear, there are NO plans to close after season 4. I actually had a meeting last week to discuss our Year 2 plans. However, right now, we’re very focused on improving the technical experience (including netcode) and adding more content for Seasons 3 & 4. We’re doing very little marketing, so yes, our numbers are down, but that’s just to give the team time to create the game was in a better place before we spent more on marketing to bring new players into the game and to bring back the players we had left.
