Mexico City.– President Claudia Sheinbaum chaired a meeting this afternoon with the parents of the Moisés Saenz secondary school, located in the municipality of Papalotla, in the State of Mexico.
This was the first meeting with parents in which the federal president participated to present the guidelines of the new universal basic education scholarship program “Rita Cetina.”
Accompanying the Executive leadership are the Governor of the State of Mexico, Delfina Gómez; Secretary of Education, Mario Delgado, and Program coordinator Julio César León. On October 4, the president announced the expansion of the scholarship program for high school students, as a first step toward universal coverage in basic education.
This expansion will begin in 2025 and ultimately aims to benefit 21.4 million students in stages over the course of his administration.
“We will give families an additional amount for each additional child they have: 1,900 base. If they have two children, 1,900 plus 700; if they have 3 children, 1,900 plus 1,400,” explains Sheinbaum. The Minister of Education, Mario Delgado, reported that this week an outreach campaign regarding this program will begin, which aims to prevent girls, boys and teenagers from dropping out of school.
Delgado announced that, between October and January 17 next year, informational meetings will be held in the country’s 35,000 public high schools to spread the program’s scope.
