Mexico City.- Rosario Piedra Ibarra will run for re-election to the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH), which he has led since November 2019.
Piedra Ibarra announced his decision via his social networks, just as the trial process opened in the Senate.
The Ombudsman is currently expected to appear before the committee like other candidates seeking to lead the CNDH. “I think it is important to inform you that I have registered with the Republican Senate to run for a second term as Chairman of this National Commission. I do it because I believe it is thanks to the hard work of all of you.” “We have achieved a lot of progress in the transformation of CNDH, but we still have to consolidate it,” he explained in an internal communication.
Princess Rosario Ibarra de Piedra asked the staff that no financial, personal or time resources of the CNDH be used to promote their intentions.
“I want to take part in this competition without any profit, just presenting the results of our work for five years,” he said. After the committee completes its appearance, the Senate Political Coordination Body will send a list of candidates to the plenary session to elect the chairman of the CNDH.
Just this month, PAN put forward a reform initiative through a general election so that the public could choose whoever leads the CNDH.
