Martin Lewis urges Britons to save £100 or more on bills amid Ofgem price cap increases

Martin Lewis, a personal finance expert, warns that if you stick to energy price limits, you are “cheating yourself”.

“No one should be under a price limit, but 85% of people do,” he previously told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.

Most major providers have offers with flat rates below that limit.

According to his moneysavingexpert.com site: “If you find a repair price that is less than the current Price Limit (October through December), it is estimated that you will save throughout the year compared to staying with the Price Limit.”

“The price cap is expected to drop slightly in January, but this will still result in energy costs being 8% higher than the fixed deals currently available,” said Elise Melville, energy expert at Uswitch.com.

He added: “You don’t need to keep paying more.”
