President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) canceled his trip to Russia to participate in the Brics, on medical advice. According to the medical bulletin from the Sírio-Libanês Hospital (Brasília unit), Lula had a domestic accident, this Saturday (19), and suffered blunt injuries in the occipital area – namely a wound to the head. According to Metropoles, the president received stitches.

“After an evaluation by the medical team, he was advised to avoid long-distance air travel and to carry out other activities. He remains under the supervision of the medical team, under the care of Prof. Dr. Roberto Kalil Filho and Dr. Ana Helena Germoglio”, the bulletin said.

At least 23 other heads of state have confirmed their presence in Kazan, where the focus of the talks will be the integration of Southern countries and a possible resolution of the conflict in the Middle East, currently intense in Lebanon and Gaza, both of which are under attack by Israel. This group of countries tends to criticize Israel and call for an end to the conflict.

The war between Russia and Ukraine may be mentioned, but it is not one of the priority issues, which also involve political, financial and sustainable development collaboration. It is unlikely that the heads of state in attendance will ask Vladimir Putin, the host, to end the invasion of a neighboring country. But behind the scenes, this issue will be debated.
