On the promotional tour of Thomas Gottschalk’s new book “Unfiltered” there was repeated discussion about statements made by the former presenter “Wetten, dass…?” At the Frankfurt Book Fair he is now arguing with a visitor.

Thomas Gottschalk is currently facing many challenges. His new book “Unfiltered” caused a lot of discussion, as did the “Spiegel” interview with statements like: “I have women on TV purely business related.” And now he’s discussing it with a visitor at the Frankfurt Book Fair. It’s about respect, his relationship with women and who has read more books.

Thomas Gottschalk discussing with a visitor

Every year, literature lovers gather at the Frankfurt Book Fair to discuss the latest developments and the best publications in the field of literature. Stars also get a platform, said Thomas Gottschalk, who speaks unfiltered about his book “Unfiltered.” However, while performing, he suddenly clashed with the visitors. A TikTok video shows the heated debate.

The clip begins in the middle of the discussion. Apparently the audience felt disrespected by Gottschalk for using his first name. Gottschalk immediately reacted: “These are all literary people here, they have all read books in their lives. Maybe more than you. I’ve read more books than you.” Apparently it’s about respect, because he goes on to say: “The point is, there’s not a single book that says I have to put you out of respect. ” Instead of understanding, this actually made the visitor even more angry.

Gottschalk’s response to criticism

“I want to see a different approach to your relationships with women,” he shouted, “and your approach to women on public television. I don’t care how you do it in your personal life.”

In the discussion, Gottschalk explained that he takes women very seriously. She points out that she worked with women like Barbara Schöneberger, who didn’t care whether she used her first name or first name. “You also used my first name without asking me,” Gottschalk said. “And that’s the problem, that young people are making demands on me that I can’t meet at all.” He thought there were enough female viewers who knew exactly what he meant. Loud applause followed.

“I always take women seriously”

Gottschalk received overwhelming approval for his stance in front of the audience. He also received a lot of support in the comments column on TikTok.

At the end of the nearly four minute video there is a kind of estimate. Thomas Gottschalk said: “I have always taken women seriously because I know that our future lies with women. You raise children more than men do.” Finally, he expresses the paradoxical conclusion that his current generation has problems with the generation they themselves raised.
