From the start, the Google Tensor chipset was based on the Exynos chip and made by Samsung. This is expected to change with the Tensor G5 next year as Google is expected to switch to TSMC process nodes. Android Authority shared an extensive report coming straight from Google’s gChips division, detailing what’s to come from the Tensor G5 and G6 SoCs.

The Tensor G5 (codenamed “laguna”) will power the upcoming Pixel 10 series and will be manufactured on TSMC’s 3nm class N3E process. It’s the same node used for Apple’s A18 Pro chip in the iPhone 16 Pro series and is arguably the leading process node at the moment.

The Tensor G6 (codenamed “malibu”) is expected to be built on TSMC’s upcoming N3P node. Although still a 3nm process, this technology will offer major improvements in terms of performance, power efficiency and size. According to leaked documents, N3P will offer a 5% frequency jump over N3E and will also be able to draw 7% less power and use 4% less surface area.
