iPhone 16 and Older Model Users Experiencing Major Battery Drain Issues After Updating to iOS 18, Apple Hasn’t Acknowledged the Problem Yet

It’s been almost a month since the iPhone 16 range hit the market, and the devices have been quite well received, aside from some aspects like the design of the ‘Pro’ models and the practicality of the Camera Control button. Apple also released iOS 18 to the general public soon after the device was announced, but some iPhone 16 users complained of excessive battery drain.

iPhone 16 and older models are experiencing battery drain issues after updating to iOS 18

iOS 18 brought a lot of issues to iPhones, and Apple has fixed most of them with the latest iOS 18.0.1 update, but some issues still occur on iPhone 16 models, including significant battery drain issues. iPhone 16 users have aired their complaints on Reddit and the Apple Support Community, stating that the battery is draining more than it should. Reddit user Ok-Interest-6561 stated:

I upgraded from my iPhone 12 and got the new 16 Pro. I upgraded mostly because of battery and speaker issues but I observed that even though the 16 has a “better battery” and longer battery life, it drains about 10-15% overnight without doing anything just lying on the desk beside my bed.

Another user on Reddit conducted his own experimentcomparing the battery life of the iPhone 16 Pro with the iPhone 14 Pro. He stated that the iPhone 16 Pro battery dropped to 58 percent in 36 hours, while the old iPhone 14 Pro was at 85 percent. This clearly shows that iPhone 16 users are experiencing major battery degradation in iOS 18,and Apple should fix this problem in the next release.

There are various causes of iPhone battery drain issues, and we’re not sure if they stem from iOS 18. Unsupported or faulty apps can also cause the iPhone 16 battery to drain faster. We’ve previously discussed how the Facebook app causes battery drain on previous iPhone models, and the reasons may be the same again.

Currently, many developers still haven’t updated their apps with support for iOS 18, and this could also be the cause of battery drain on iPhone 16 models. This issue also seems to affect some older iPhone models, and the cause may be the same. Apple has not responded at this stage, but the company has potentially fixed the bug that caused the problem to persist on the iPhone 16 and older models. We’ll keep you posted as soon as the fix is made, but before that, are you experiencing battery drain issues on your new iPhone 16?
