Mexico City.- Almost 18 years after Valentín Elizalde’s passing, there are still many myths about his death that we will try to clarify in El Sobreviviente Elizalde.

The documentary is narrated through the eyes of his cousin Fausto “Tano” Elizalde, who was present at the attack on the singer, on November 25, 2006, outside the Expo Feria Reynosa arena, in Tamaulipas,

Produced by José Garza Durón and Alejandro Garza Durón, and directed by Ricardo Huerta, this documentary shows what the last days and hours of the singer’s life were like, as well as the impact it had on his family. “With this investigation we have a lot of valuable material. We have more than 60 hours of recorded interviews, but a lot has been missed. We are concentrating on one part of what happened.

“This is not a tabloid issue, this is listening to the people who are around,” commented Huerta on the occasion of the 19th DocsMx documentary festival, held at Tonalá Cinema this Thursday.

The documentary features performances by Carlo Guerra as Valentín Elizalde and Markin López as Fausto, and photography by Rodrigo Villa, Eder Nieto and Ricardo Huerta. “My process as a director was to gain trust in Tano and make friends. As a director, you don’t have to judge the character you’re working with, but I dedicated myself to listening to him. Then he stopped talking to me because he didn’t like what I had to say

“The job was done backwards. To have an intimacy with the characters and the story, to understand what happened. Then we drew maps and wrote a lot of things, more than this feature film. We drew a chronological outline of the singer’s life,” added Huerta. El Sobreviviente Elizalde Productions obtained the artist’s musical and legal rights to include testimonies from family and close friends gathered in states such as Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, Jalisco, Sonora and Sinaloa. With a duration of 92 minutes, El Sobreviviente Elizalde will be the opening film of the BJX film festival at the Teatro Juárez in Guanajuato, November 25.
