Algeciras Railway Station, located in the city of Algeciras in the Spanish province of Cádiz, is a major transport hub in southern Spain having the distinction of being the southernmost railway station in mainland Europe.

Algeciras is a port city on the Bay of Gibraltar, overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar, with views of the nearby African coast. This station itself is a gateway for travelers heading to or from North Africa, especially for those taking the ferry to Morocco.

Algeciras is the terminus of the railway line that runs through Ronda and Bobadilla, connecting it to Madrid and other major Spanish cities.

The route to Ronda is very scenic, with the train passing through the mountains and offering stunning views of the rugged landscape of southern Spain.

The station offers regional and long-distance train services. The most important route is the line to Madrid, served by Renfe, Spain’s national rail operator.

Although not a high-speed train line (as in other parts of Spain), trains to and from Algeciras are comfortable and offer stunning views of the Andalusian countryside.

The Algeciras–Bobadilla line was completed in the 19th century, playing an important role in connecting the port of Algeciras with the Spanish interior.

Algeciras itself, because of its strategic location, has long been an entry point for trade and military movements between Europe and Africa.

Algeciras is not far from tourist destinations such as Gibraltar, Tarifa (a windsurfing hotspot), and the Sierra de Grazalema mountains.

Many travelers use this station as a transit point on their way to exploring the natural beauty and rich culture of Andalusia.

There is talk of modernizing and upgrading the line to Algeciras, as part of a wider plan to improve infrastructure in southern Spain. This will further increase the importance of relations between Europe and Africa.

Elsewhere, the northernmost train station in Europe is Narvik, Norway, the easternmost station is Kars and Akyaka in Türkiye, and the westernmost is Cascais, Portugal.
