Lucy Connolly, the wife of Conservative West Northamptonshire councilor Raymond Connolly, has been jailed at Birmingham Crown Court for 31 months for inciting racial hatred against X on the day of the Southport attack.

Lucy Connolly, 41, a childminder, via X, formerly Twitter, called for hotels housing migrants to be burned down following the murder of three girls in Southport.

In his message, he said: “Mass deportation now, burn down all the damn hotels full of bullshit, for all I care… If that makes me racist, so be it. .”

Mrs Connolly, who is married to West Northamptonshire councilor Raymond Connolly, has been held in prison since her first hearing on August 10.

Connolly advertises childcare services on the online platform Childcare.co.uk, which said that after hearing about “highly inappropriate tweets”, Connolly took action to suspend him as an advertiser.

Speaking after his guilty plea, her husband said his wife understood what she had done and regretted it.

Mr Connolly said: “He knows he has crossed the line and there are consequences. Hopefully he can learn from this and move on with his life.”

This comes amid a series of tough sentences handed down by authorities following the riots that swept the country following the senseless murder of three children in Southport.

Following the murder, misinformation spread online blaming an illegal immigrant for the murder, and the claim was later revealed to be false.
