Due to the accident, the road was closed for a long time and controllers diverted people. Two of them had to “jump for their lives” when a motorist hit them, according to a police spokesman. It is not clear whether the driver in question deliberately crashed into the traffic controllers at around 5 p.m. or whether he did not see them. The 43-year-old man from Oudenbosch was arrested and found to be drunk. His statement is still being recorded, attempted murder is suspected.
The crash with the single-engine plane occurred early Wednesday afternoon. It took off from Breda Airport, the Dutch Safety Board concluded from the results of the initial investigation. The pilot was taking flying lessons and was the only occupant. Further investigation should reveal what caused the plane to crash on the road. There were no other casualties, but a car was hit by debris.
