The Israeli army announced that an Iranian-made rocket fired by a Hezbollah militia fell on Saturday on a soccer field where children and teenagers were playing. Hezbollah claimed several attacks on Israeli military positions, but denied targeting the playground.
Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib asked on the news platform.
Mistake
The committee Bou Habib refers to is made up of military officers from Israel and Lebanon, which are at war, and representatives of the UN peacekeeping force. The foreign minister said he hoped the attack “was carried out by another organisation or that it was a mistake by Israel or Hezbollah”. He reiterated that Lebanese groups attack “only military targets” and not civilians at all.
Bou Habib also called for a “full and thorough implementation” of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. This resolution ended the war between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006 and declared the Lebanese army and the UN peacekeeping force as the only armed forces in southern Lebanon.
