Hezbollah has a large arsenal of rockets and has been regularly shelling the border area for months. The situation has been further aggravated after 12 young men were killed in a rocket attack on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The Iranian mission to the UN now says the attack in Beirut crossed a border. Israel and Hezbollah are said to have previously had an “unwritten agreement.” This means the attacks will occur mainly in the border area and will be directed primarily against military targets, the diplomatic mission said.
Shortly after Shukr’s death, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was also killed in an explosion in the Iranian capital Tehran. There he was kept in a heavily guarded shelter for regime guests.
