Hundreds express their support for Israel in the center of Amstelveen

Many of the visitors carry Israeli flags, often tied to their shoulders. There are police vans parked around the square. The speeches are given on a small stage in the town square.

BBB leader Caroline van der Plas was one of the speakers. He said that there is no ‘but’ about the events of October 7. “On October 7, 2023, there was a horrible massacre of people who were singled out simply because they were Jewish.” Van der Plas asked people who wanted to demonstrate on Monday to stay home. ‘Protest is an important right in the Netherlands, but one day a year you can stay home. Stay home now!’ Pro-Palestinian demonstrations are planned at several train stations on Monday.

Speech

Also giving a speech was the grandfather of Dutch-Israeli Ofir Engel, who was taken hostage by Hamas on October 7. “We will fight until all the hostages return home,” he said. After the speech by the granddaughter of a hostage, some of those present shouted the slogan “bring them home.”

The meeting was organized, among others, by the Israel Information and Documentation Center (CIDI). A replica of a Gaza underground tunnel has been on display in the square since Sunday afternoon.
