The government has a tangle of policy intentions, some of which are contradictory or impossible to implement. Are there common points? The Framework Agreement begins with “The Netherlands is a beautiful country.” A country to be proud of.’

The throne speech and the government statement do something similar, giving the example of sporting successes. Proud of Holland. And the government wants, in the words of the Government Declaration, to “do something good for the Netherlands.” And for all the Dutch and all the residents of the Kingdom.” That sounds nice, and some of the plans are, but what is actually happening here is that the Netherlands itself is being placed on the throne.
