Haiti’s interim prime minister admitted to hospital

A Conille employee did not tell the radio station what was happening with the interim prime minister, appointed by Haiti’s transitional council in late May. Conille succeeded Ariel Henry, who resigned in March. Conille was Prime Minister for a total of seven months in 2011 and 2012. She resigned following a conflict with then-president Michel Martelly, after which she lost the support of her cabinet. Until recently, Ella Conille was regional director of the United Nations children’s rights organization, UNICEF.

Haiti suffers violence from criminal gangs. According to UN estimates, more than 360,000 people have been displaced in the country due to clashes between rival gangs. Last Monday, Conille reported that the country’s different political groups have overcome their differences “in the interest of the country.”
