FAB sends fifth flight to rescue Brazilian citizens in Lebanon

The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) sent another plane from Operation Raízes do Cedro this Saturday (12) to rescue Brazilians who wanted to leave Lebanon amidst Israeli bombing.

The fifth flight of the KC-30 aircraft to Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, took off at 11 am from São Paulo Air Base. The repatriation flight will stop in Portugal before reaching its destination.

This Saturday morning, another 211 Brazilians arrived in the country. In total after four repatriation flights, 885 people and 11 peoplepetreturned to Brazil.

Number

According to the Brazilian government, around 20 thousand Brazilians live in Lebanon. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) estimates that there are three thousand people who want to leave the country on FAB flights.

The first 229 repatriated Brazilians arrived on Sunday morning (6) at São Paulo Air Base and were welcomed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

In addition to the aim of searching for more Brazilians in Lebanon, the plane took off from São Paulo carrying 1,400 baskets of basic food and 6,900 packages of various medicines collected by the United for Lebanon Association (UpL), for a total of 1,340 kg by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency ( ABC ), from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense.

In previous deliveries, the Brazilian government sent to Lebanon, on 06/10, 08/10 and 10/10, medicines, disposable syringes and rehydration envelopes, provided by the Ministry of Health, in addition to medicines and basic food baskets collected by the Ministry of Health.
