A chowk in Mumbai’s Lokhandwala is named in honor of legendary actress Sridevi. The late actress’ husband Boney Kapoor and daughter Khushi Kapoor inaugurated the chowk on Saturday. Boney Kapoor shared a photo of a stone signboard bearing a photo of the actress and reading “Sridevi Kapoor Chowk.” The producer tagged his daughters Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor in the post. The chowk is located at a junction near Green Acres Tower, where Sridevi lived for many years. Sridevi’s family was accompanied by veteran actors Shabana Azmi, Anupam Kher and Poonam Dhillon.
Actress Raveena Tandon, who worked with Sridevi in the film Kick itresponded to the post with a folded hands emoji. Fashion designer Manish Malhotra posted a heart emoji in the comments section.
In another video circulating on social media, Boney Kapoor was seen inaugurating the chowk by unveiling a stone plaque. An emotional Boney Kapoor was also seen touching Sridevi’s photo with his hand, while Khushi Kapoor stood beside him.
Sridevi married producer Boney Kapoor in 1996 and they have two daughters, Janhvi and Khushi. Often called the “first female superstar” of Indian cinema, Sridevi made her debut in 1967 with the Tamil film. Kandhan Karunai when he was only four years old. In a career spanning over 50 years, he worked in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi films. His last film was Mama which was released in 2017. He also made a cameo appearance in Shah Rukh Khan Zerowhich was released after his death.
On 24 February 2018, Sridevi was found dead in the bathtub of a hotel in Dubai.
Her husband Boney Kapoor often posted about the late actress on social media. On 13 August 2024, he shared a photo of Sridevi on her 60th birth anniversary and wrote, “Happy birthday my Jaan.”
Sridevi’s daughters, Janhvi and Khushi, are both actors. Janhvi Kapoor was last seen in Cattle with Jr NTR, which is also his first Telugu film. Khushi Kapoor made her debut with Zoya Akhtar Archi in 2023.
