Within the Democratic Party, Biden’s actions have called into question whether he is the best candidate to take on Trump. Several party figures have reiterated their support for Biden, including former President Barack Obama, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Governor Gavin Newsom of California.
“Debate nights are bad. Believe me, I know,” Obama says in X about his former vice president. According to Obama, Thursday’s debate does not change the fact that the choice is between “someone who has fought his whole life for ordinary people and someone who only cares about himself.”
According to preliminary data, the television debate between Biden and Trump was watched by about 48 million viewers. Politicians will debate for the second and final time on September 10. The presidential elections will take place on November 5.
