Biden calls for national security team for Middle East

According to the news site Axios, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken indicated on Sunday in a conversation with the other G7 foreign ministers that Iran and Hezbollah could attack Israel “in the next 24 to 48 hours.” Blinken’s ministry merely confirmed that the ministers had discussed “the urgent need for a reduction of tensions in the Middle East” in the video call.

Iran’s elite military corps, the Revolutionary Guard, announced on Saturday that it would retaliate “at the right time and in the right way” for the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. He was killed on Iranian soil earlier this week. Iran, an ally of Hamas, accuses Israel of the murder. Hezbollah would like to take revenge for the death of commander Fuad Shukr earlier this week in Beirut, the Lebanese capital.
